NHSx perioperative care digital playbook 2021

Definition Health is proud to announce that LifeBox, our pioneering digital pre-operative health assessment tool, has been prominently featured in the NHSx Perioperative Care Digital Playbook 2021. This playbook serves as a guide for healthcare providers across the NHS, showcasing best practices and digital solutions that improve patient outcomes, streamline care pathways, and enhance surgical safety.

LifeBox has been instrumental in transforming the pre-operative assessment process at several NHS Trusts, including the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), which is highlighted in the NHSx playbook. Traditionally, pre-assessments were conducted face-to-face, taking valuable time and resources. With LifeBox, patients can now complete these assessments remotely, significantly improving efficiency.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, all 7,000 outpatient appointments at SWLEOC are now conducted virtually, eliminating the need for face-to-face appointments. This shift not only reduced operational costs but also contributed to a reduction in CO2 emissions. For every 5,000 patients, the virtual assessments saved the unit over £96,000.

According to the NHSx playbook, digital pre-assessment tools like LifeBox are crucial in tackling the surgical backlog, enabling hospitals to manage patient waiting lists more effectively and ensuring timely access to care. By adopting digital solutions, NHS Trusts can reduce the administrative burden, lower costs, and promote more environmentally sustainable healthcare practices.
