We’re delighted to share that South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) has been shortlisted in two categories at the HSJ Digital Awards 2025, recognising its innovative use of Definition Health’s virtual ward platform to improve outcomes for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery. SWLEOC has been named a finalist in the following categories:

Celebrating innovation in elective orthopaedics
The shortlisting recognises the collaborative efforts of SWLEOC and Definition Health to digitally transform post-operative care for hip and knee replacement patients. Using Definition Health’s Recovery virtual ward solution, SWLEOC has implemented a personalised remote recovery pathway that ensures safety, enhances patient experience, and reduces the burden on clinical teams.

This recognition builds on an already strong track record of digital innovation at SWLEOC. The use of the Recovery virtual ward has allowed clinicians to maintain oversight of patient recovery in the community, provide timely interventions, and reduce unnecessary follow-ups, all while empowering patients to take an active role in their own care.
A growing legacy of award recognition
This is not the first time the partnership has been recognised. In 2024, SWLEOC was shortlisted for the HSJ Partnership Awards, the HSJ Patient Safety Awards, and the Nursing Times Awards for its use of Definition Health’s technology, and took home two HSJ Patient Safety Awards for its pioneering approach to digital recovery pathways. Now, the shortlisting at the HSJ Digital Awards 2025 further reinforces the positive impact this partnership continues to have on patients, staff and services.
